I was in the most dangerous favelas in Brazil teaching art and meditation. As part of the program they had in the terreiro (temple of Afro-Brazilian religion), we would feed the children of the favela and then I would teach them art and meditation. Today I can tell you that I’ve been to all these places to assist, but over the years I have realized that it was I who received the help: hugs, smiles, and so much love. I remember that on my last day in the "Liberdade" favela in Salvador Bahia, Brazil, I was in the temple where they prepared a farewell that I will never forget. First, inside the temple, the Mae de Santo, Mofojusta, gave me her blessings for my journey. When I came out, there were 20 children with cans and a collection of instruments that they had crafted by gathering things from the garbage. They had created a band to sing to me and bless my path along with 100 other children to whom I had served food for a month. On my last day in that place, that was my pay: a nourishment in my soul that came from another world, from the spiritual world of those children.
While traveling, as a natural and tireless act, I dedicated myself to planting trees in each country I visited, because I love planting trees ever since I am little. I have been doing this work for more than 20 years in many countries since the earth is only one place, and today we already know scientifically that if we cut down a forest, this affects the entire world. Borders do not exist for the planet, they are just a political creation. For many years I made this journey without registration. Now, since 2012, my partner Leiza decided to start a photo registry that we share here for those who are interested in joining and supporting us with their donation so that we can continue with this dream that we carry out today around environmental education, planetary reforestation, agroecology, permaculture and bio-construction. Since we can’t do it alone –and it’s more beautiful to do it together- we are open to asking for and receiving your help.
All those people who have the same dream are invited. We dream of a world inhabited by men and women more aware of their inner world and a future with trees, rivers, and oceans of clean water for our children.
